A Message to our Customers We would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during the recent very challenging period for the UK's solar industry. Whilst the government's consultation proposals for reducing the FIT from last December have now been declared unlawful by the Courts, it laid new regulations before parliament that reduced FIT levels from 3rd March 2012. The new rates are 21p (up to 4kWp), 16.8p (4-10kWp), 15.2p (10-50kWp), 12.9p (50-250kWp) and 8.5p (250kWp-5MWp). Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are also now required for all buildings to which PV systems are connected (EPC rating must be 'D' or above). However, planning permission is no longer required for most systems mounted on non-domestic roofs. Because of reductions in component costs, these new tariff levels will still provide a reasonable rate of return (8-12%). We are confident that individuals and organisations will continue to choose solar to reduce their exposure to energy price rises, lower their carbon emissions and generate a useful FIT income. There will be further changes to tariff rates from 1st July (or earlier if installations run ahead of forecasts) and there is therefore a window of opportunity for customers to order their systems to take advantage of the new rates. We would urge our customers to order as soon as possible to allow time for component deliveries, structural surveys, DNO connection requests and planning applications. |
