Lark Energy's MD Delivers Presentation to Solar Experts at Munich Intersolar Seminar
Jonathan Selwyn, Managing Director of Lark Energy, was recently invited to speak to an international audience in Munich about Lark Energy’s experience of developing large scale solar farms.
The half day seminar called ‘Doing Solar Business in the UK’ took place on Tuesday 12 June at the Novotel Muenchen Messe Hotel – the day before the prestigious Intersolar Exhibition at the adjacent Munich Exhibition Centre.
The seminar brought together key experts in the solar industry from across the world, who discussed the bright future for the UK solar market.
Last year, Lark Energy completed two of the UK’s largest solar farms in Hawton, near Newark in Nottinghamshire and at Marston near Grantham. Each solar farm covers some 30 acres and generates enough electricity to supply around 1,100 homes.
Lark Energy is currently constructing two further solar farms - a 3MWp project near Peterborough and a 5MWp project near Salisbury. The company is also currently developing a 30MW (megawatt) solar farm at Wymeswold near Loughborough. When complete, this 150 acre project will form the largest solar farm in the UK and one of the largest in Europe.
Solar farms are a simple and proven technology providing a source of clean, locally produced renewable energy for many years after construction.
A ‘solar farm’ consists of a large number of solar panels mounted on metal frames. The frames are fixed to posts which are driven into to the ground. The panels are south facing, up to 2.5m high and are usually tilted at an angle of 30 degrees. Photovoltaic panels (solar PV) harness the power of natural daylight to produce electricity. The electricity produced is connected directly to the local electricity network and is used by local households and businesses.
The land used for a solar farm creates places for nature and wildlife. The ground beneath the panels can also be used to graze small sheep or poultry – or to grow grass and wildflowers.
Jonathan commented: “I was delighted to represent Lark Energy at this seminar and share our knowledge and expertise in developing large-scale solar installations in the UK. The half day seminar in Munich brought together many experts from the world’s solar industry and analysed how both the small and large-scale solar markets can thrive in the UK in years to come.”
