LARKFLEET’S LOW CARBON PROJECT RECOGNISED IN CARBON POSITIVE AWARDS
The Larkfleet Group has won a Business in the Community Carbon Positive Award for demonstrating its success in developing and building to the highest environmental standards.
The awards were open to businesses and organisations in the East Midlands whose low carbon projects inspire others to take action.
The winners had to provide evidence that they had considered how carbon reducing activity would benefit their overall objectives and that the activity is well managed and resourced. They also had to demonstrate the impact of the carbon reduction activity both on the environment and the business as a whole.
One area Larkfleet Group focused on was its unique Sustainability Demonstration House located next to Lark Energy's offices in Bourne, Lincolnshire.
The timber-framed three-bedroom Sustainability Demonstration House shows how a home can be constructed to meet the requirements of Level 3 and Level 4 of the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes by using sustainable building techniques.
Key parts of the house (sections of walls, floors and ceilings) have been left unfinished to show how it is possible to combine different building techniques and technologies to meet demanding environmental standards without excessive cost.
A house built to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 using technologies demonstrated in the Sustainability Demonstration House will save 0.6 tonnes of carbon per year compared with a home built to current Building Regulations standards. A home built to Code Level 4 will save 1.0 tonne per year.
Jonathan Selwyn, managing director of Lark Energy, collected the award on behalf of the Group. He said: “I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Larkfleet Group. The company is a market leader in high quality, energy efficient housing and such recognition helps to drive further improvement and innovation.”
The award that Larkfleet won is sponsored by the East Midlands Development Agency.
