Public Exhibition on Plans for a Solar Farm in Whittlesey - 22 February
Lark Energy is hosting a public exhibition on its proposed development of Black Bush Farm, Reach Drove, Whittlesey as a solar farm. It is being held on Tuesday 22 February, from 3pm – 8pm at The Ivy Leaf Club, 1 Gracious Street, Whittlesey PE7 1AP.
Solar power is part of the country’s strategy to generate clean energy as a way to combat climate change and to provide secure long term energy sources for the UK. The approximately 24 acre solar farm is designed to deliver approximately 3 megawatts of power – enough annual electricity to supply around 750 homes.
Jo Wall, Land Planning Manager, Lark Energy, said: “We have recently had preliminary discussions with Fenland District Council and Whittlesey Town Council and we are now hosting an exhibition for local people to see and discuss our plans.
“We want talk to local people about solar farms and show them what the Black Bush Farm solar farm would look like.
“We are aware, from preliminary discussions that people want to know about the visual impact, noise, security, lighting and how the land is managed, and our team will be there to show them pictures of the planned development and to answer any questions they may have.”
Photovoltaic panels (solar PV) harness the power of natural daylight to produce electricity. A ‘solar farm’ is a large number of solar panels mounted on racks fixed to the ground. The panels are south facing, generally around 1.8m high and are tilted towards the sun. The electricity produced is connected directly to the National Grid.
Solar farms are a simple and proven technology providing a source of safe, locally produced renewable energy for many years after construction. The land used for a solar farm creates places for nature and wildlife. The ground beneath the panels can also be used to graze small sheep, goats or poultry – or to grow grass and wildflowers.
